Refugee Week is an arts and culture festival celebrating the contributions, creativity and resilience of refugees and people seeking safety. This year it’s the 25th anniversary of Refugee Week and the theme is compassion.
At Boaz we love how Refugee Week provides a platform for people with lived experience to share their stories on their own terms. It's a chance for people from all backgrounds to connect beyond labels and gain a deeper understanding of why people are displaced and the challenges they face when seeking safety.
There are so many ways you can get involved this Refugee Week - from arts, cultural, sports and educational events to committing to some everyday ‘Simple Acts’ to stand with refugees and make connections in your community. Click here to get involved!
If you’re planning an event, you can submit it to the Refugee Week calendar here so that others can hear about it.
We've also put together some church resources to help you celebrate Refugee Week - take a look by clicking the button below.
This Refugee Week could also be an opportunity for you to make a tangible difference for people who have sought safety in the UK and are now facing destitution. A donation of £224 could enable us to provide someone who is destitute with a safe, warm room in a shared Boaz house.

Another way to get involved (which is one of the Refugee Week 'Simple Acts') is to use your platform to champion people seeking safety.
This might look like engaging with Boaz or other organisations on social media during Refugee Week and using the #RefugeeWeek or #CompassionIntoAction hashtags. If you're a business or professional, it might look like showing your support by displaying posters in your workplace.
If you're a writer, you could use your creative skills to write a blog, poem, article or short story and share it with your networks. As a church, faith or community group, you could invite a Boaz speaker to come to your event or service to raise awareness about the UK asylum system and the need for safe accommodation.
