Our fundraising team is growing! We’re looking to appoint people in two new roles: Fundraising Officer and Fundraising Officer (Trusts). Below is an interview with our Head of Fundraising to give a bit of a window into life as part of the fundraising team at Boaz.
What's it like working at Boaz?
It's a real joy to work at Boaz! It is a friendly and warm team, which makes a huge difference - it's a privilege to work with people who are both brilliant at what they do and also kind and lovely to be around. As fundraisers we get to see the direct impact of every grant secured or gift given through time spent in person with the rest of the team in the office, while also getting to enjoy the benefits of being able to work remotely.
So we've got a good mix of quiet focus time at home and being together, and our team's rhythms - sharing about our work and praying for it, and regular team meetings - mean it is easy to see how our work fundraising fits with the mission of Boaz and the life changing frontline work delivered by Boaz's support team.
What skills and experience are you particularly on the lookout for in relation to the two new fundraising roles?
For the Trusts role, we're looking for someone who can write strong case for support and can put together genuinely persuasive funding applications using evidence - that could come from experience grant writing, bid-writing, or just writing compellingly for a cause you've cared about.
For the Fundraising Officer role, it's much more about relationships and reliability: someone who can be warm and personable with a church group or on the phone to a supporter, who also won't let a donation sit unacknowledged or a database go untidy.
For both cases, we are open to people with transferable skills and not just direct experience, and crucially, we are looking for genuine interest in and passion for our work with people seeking sanctuary.
What are you most excited about for the future of fundraising at Boaz?
I think the future of fundraising at Boaz is really bright! Especially so with the right people in place, so we can build a stronger, more sustainable flow of support for the cause; from trusts and foundations, and from our brilliant community of churches and individual supporters who we are blessed to call friends.
I'm excited for us to have the opportunity to deepen relationships we have with supporters we already know, and to find new friends in our mission to end destitution amongst people seeking sanctuary here in Greater Manchester. Ultimately, that is what it is all about - growing so we can support more people, see more people find a safe place to stay, and speak up for a fair and compassionate asylum system.
