Boaz Accommodation
Our accommodation is provided through shared houses and a voluntary hosting scheme (currently paused), meaning that places are limited. Please ensure the person you are referring understands that Boaz accommodation is rarely available immediately, and we cannot guarantee that every person referred will be accommodated.
People whose asylum claims have been refused - not currently accepting new referrals
After a difficult 2023, we have had to start making some changes to our work, including a process to reduce the number of Boaz houses in Manchester and Salford, as well as making changes / reductions in staffing across the organisation.
Because of these changes, our waiting list for people who have been refused asylum will be temporarily closed (to be reviewed in April 2024). We currently have almost 100 people on the waiting list and we don’t want to give false hope to people needing accommodation, nor to partner agencies, by continuing to accept referrals when it is unlikely that someone will be offered accommodation, particularly after the reduction in bed spaces. We will continue to contact those already on the waiting list to help us prioritise for when a space next becomes available.
Our waiting list is ordered by a scoring system based on priority need (for example: current accommodation, health conditions), and we will normally meet with those scoring highest on our waiting list initially to further establish their situation. Our accommodation and support for people who have received a refusal on their asylum claim is temporary but people can stay in Boaz accommodation for up to one year, which is why spaces are not always available quickly.

People who have been granted refugee status
Our waiting list for people with refugee status remains open but please note, we have seen a major increase in referrals over recent months and our waiting list is longer than ever (over 140 people as of Feb 2024), so we may not be able to offer accommodation quickly.
We will contact those on the waiting list to explain about Boaz housing and when a space is available, we will meet with the individual and take copies of their identification to confirm their immigration status (as requested by law), and will offer them the available room (having already shown them the property). People in Boaz refugee housing pay rent for their accommodation through their wages or Universal Credit.
Existing Referrals
If you have referred someone previously, please let us know of any changes to their situation as this may affect their suitability or priority on our waiting list. You can update us by sending an email or calling the office on 0161 202 1056. If we have had no contact from you or the referred individual after six months on the waiting list we will email you to confirm whether they are still in need of accommodation, and remove them from the waiting list if not.

Boaz Floating Support
Our Floating Support is for people living in unstable accommodation who are at risk of destitution, and for those who have already been made homeless due to their immigration status. We work with people from non-EU countries who have restricted eligibility for other services due to the No Recourse to Public Funds condition attached to their immigration status (including people who have been through the asylum process).
Boaz Floating Support provides holistic support including ensuring people have access to legal advice, practical help to relieve destitution, and other specialist support, advice and signposting (in partnership with the Booth Centre and GMIAU as part of the Greater Manchester Restricted Eligibility Support Service).
