This winter we have once again opened up our winter night shelter for men who become homeless at some point during the asylum process and have nowhere else to turn. Over the last three and a half months the volunteers who staff the night shelter have not only done an incredible job of providing the basic essentials of food and a safe place to stay for our guests - they really have gone the extra mile to ensure that all who stay are welcomed and are looked after well! We are so grateful for this.

So far this season 30 people from 15 different countries have stayed in the night shelter. We work with each guest to try and find positive move on options - for some guests this can take time and isn't always straightforward, which means that all of the ongoing accommodation and hospitality that our night shelter venues offer makes even more of a difference to those who stay. One of our former night shelter guests Rami had this to say about his time staying:

To go from sleeping on the street, rain in your face, to walking into a warm place, eating hot food and meeting people who genuinely care about you… the Boaz night shelter is the best time in the UK that I’ve had. The best experience, with the best people. I don’t think that there is any better than what I received.

We need your help

Each night we always have two male volunteers 'on duty' to sleep over at our venues. This role is vital and helps to create a safe space for our guests - without these volunteers, we would not be able to offer our night shelter provision.

We're currently looking out for male volunteers to sleep over (9pm to 8am) in our night shelter venues based in Longsight, Openshaw and Didsbury. If you might be available on at least one or two Monday, Wednesday or Friday nights each month, between now and the end of April, we'd really love to hear from you.
